In fact, as long as they understand their standards and other characteristics, they can easily distinguish them. The so-called high-strength nuts are special bolts with high strength and high fatigue resistance used in special equipment or projects. Of course, generally high-strength nuts are used with high-strength bolts to achieve better results. Test load: The test load is an axially applied load under which the nut should not show signs of thread loss or breakage. For testing, the test load is a numerical value; for applications in design, the test load is a larger limit.
In the test, the test load is applied to the nut to be tested through the axially loaded test bolt or the machine mandrel. When the load is removed, the rivet nut must be free to remove from the bolt or the mandrel. This latter requirement is very interesting as it proves that the threads are not twisted enough to bond the engaged threads together. Tests have shown that thread bonding occurs when the applied load reaches 95% of the load that causes the thread to fall off.
The test load for a rivet nut is expressed in the term "stress" in most rivet nut strength grade standards - pounds per square inch. When calculating the actual test load in pounds, multiply the test stress (psi) by the stressed area.
VERY IMPORTANT: The test loads are unrelated to those specified for externally threaded fasteners except in the general stress area
Taper test load: The taper test load is a kind of axial external load that the nut must accept, and the rivet nut cannot have the phenomenon of thread falling off or inner wall breaking during the process of receiving the load. In the test, the rivet nut was mounted on a hardened conical washer with a 120° angle. The intention of placing the conical washer is to have a strong effect of expanding the inner wall of the nut when it is stressed axially. Assuming the nut has not been tested, it is usually because the inner wall is cracked rather than the nut falling off.
Nuts used in high temperature environments—covered in ASTM A194—are subject to a cone test load test. In addition, the standard for the acceptance limit of discontinuous surfaces of rivet nuts defines the conical test load test for nuts with joints. After testing, it means that the seam on the rivet nut has not reached the level of affecting the working function of the nut.
